Motah August Webcast

Motah - which is our slang for the word motivate - is a website that features the achievements of REAL kids. It could be an obstacle youve overcome, or something as simple as a good deed. The idea is to create a positive place where you can post your accomplishments, get credit for it and find inspiration through reading the stories of other kids.

Catalina Restrepo is a writer. You can read some of the beautiful stories she’s submitted to Motah at www.gomotah.com. Catalina also has her own business where she designs specialty picture frames and cupcakes.

Lina Cuartas is a children’s author who wrote a popular book in English and Spanish that is now for sale on www.gomotah.com. It is called “Come Into My World” and is an activity book for kids. Watch Lina’s story, then read more about her at www.lunitacompany.com. Lina is also a writer for Motah.

Sometimes the best gift in life is not what you buy in the store, but what comes from the heart. We hope the story of Shawna and Marina inspires you like it has us. Oh, the lessons we can learn from two 7-year-olds! Shawna and Marina are best friends. They sparkle when they’re together. We believe they’re Motah’d Kids not only because they’re just great kids overall, but they also are very thoughtful and loyal. You should see the book Shawna wrote for Marina when Marina was recently in the hospital Shawna knew her friend was afraid of having surgery. So, every night for nearly two weeks, Shawna worked on a book for Marina about MOTIVATION - motivation to not be scared. Shawna reminded Marina about Marina’s loves in life: monkeys, High School Musical, fashion, family and friends. Marina says she was so happy to read Shawna’s book, she easily made it through her surgery and hospital stay. The two friends agree: it’s the relationships you build that really matter. Their challenge: how are the relationships in your life?

Marco grew up in Mexico. He moved to the U.S. as a teen, learned English and works at La Prensa. He helps with just about everything that goes into the paper such as layout and graphic design.

What a wonderful act of selflessness! Katie, Leah, Amber, Roxie and Hugo spent a week of vacation helping the underprivileged in Mexico. They went on a Missionary Trip where they helped build houses for poor families. Katie – Iowa, Leah - Minnesota, Amber - South Dakota, Roxie – Texas, Hugo - Mexico

Last year I was accepted to the Carver Academy. I was excited and scared. I was sad that I'd have to leave my friends at my old school. I wasn't sure if they would forget about me. When I started the Carver, I didn't think I was as smart as all the kids there. Most of them have been there since Pre-K. My mom convinced me to not give up. I worked extra hard and kept trying my best. It was also hard because my dad was working in Iraq and I was really missing him. He emailed me all the times and we used to play computer games together and that was kind of cool.

"I will do my best to be Honest and fair"....Does the beginning of that sentence sound familiar to you? It is part of the "law" in one organization Sarah has been a part of. She can repeat that law from heart not only because she was required to memorize it, but she also lives it every day. Sarah cannot speak more highly of the Girl Scouts. She says the group helped build her confidence and taught her to be a leader in her community and school. Those who know Sarah will agree: she fits every aspect of the Girl Scout law: "I will do my best to be, Honest and fair, Friendly and helpful, Considerate and caring, Courageous and strong, and Responsible for what I say and do, And to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout."

We first met Sara when she was a volunteer at the MDA Labor Day Telethon. She is not only an ambassador for that organization, but also helps the needy in Mexico. Watch her story to see what she did for childen across the border.

Ryan is such an inspiration for all kids. We heard about Ryan through his father Daniel who works for La Prensa. Ryan has overcome having a deformed hand to become an outstanding young man. Watch his story!

Tayler has been Irish Dancing for the past seven years. She is so dedicated, she practices on her own 12 hours a week! Tayler has placed many times in Open Championships for Irish Dance. She also placed 11th in Regionals against 120 competitors. She now moves onto the National and World competitions. Outside of Irish Dance, Tayler is a straight "A" student, she is in all honor and advanced placement courses, and she was recently selected to receive a scholarship in biology from the private school she attends. Tayler is definitely a Motah'd Kid!
